Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using HighlightsHub ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

HighlightsHub is a personal reading and shared book-club service that allows you to:

• Import and organize book highlights from Kindle and Audible
• Add personal notes and tags to your highlights
• Share highlights with the community (optional)
• Follow other readers and engage with shared content
• Create or join clubs with shared books, milestones, passages, discussions, queues, and votes
• Receive optional club reminders and weekly digests controlled by organizer defaults and your own preferences

3. User Accounts

To use the Service, you must create an account. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the security of your account credentials
• All activities that occur under your account
• Providing accurate and current account information

4. Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you upload to the Service, including highlights, notes, profile information, shared passages, and club discussions.

By uploading content, you grant HighlightsHub a license to:

• Store and display your content to you
• Display public content to other users (if you choose to share)
• Process your content to provide the Service
• Display club content to the members of the club where you chose to post it

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Upload content that infringes on intellectual property rights
• Share harmful, abusive, or illegal content
• Attempt to access other users' accounts
• Use the Service for commercial spam or advertising
• Interfere with the proper functioning of the Service

6. Intellectual Property

The highlights you save are quotes from books you've read. You are responsible for ensuring your use of these quotes complies with fair use principles. HighlightsHub is not responsible for the copyright status of content you upload.

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

8. Plans and Billing

Personal use of HighlightsHub is free. Club Plus costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year per club. New clubs receive a 30-day Plus trial without a payment method; the trial does not automatically convert to a paid plan, and the club continues on Starter if its owner does not subscribe. The first 1,000 clubs may subscribe at a founding price of $49.99 per year and retain that price while the club remains continuously subscribed. If a founding subscription ends, later reactivation is offered at the then-current price.

Club owners control billing. Members may participate without payment. Paid plans automatically renew for the selected monthly or annual interval until canceled. Before confirming checkout, Stripe displays the price, billing interval, any tax, and renewal terms.

You authorize us and Stripe to charge the payment method on file at each renewal. You can update payment details, view invoices, or cancel from the club's Settings tab using Manage billing. Upgrades begin immediately. Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the current paid billing period, with Club Plus access continuing until that date. A founding price remains protected if a scheduled cancellation is reversed before the subscription ends; after it ends, the founding price cannot be restored. Canceling or downgrading stops future premium automation but does not remove existing club posts or reading history.

We send transactional billing notices to the club owner, including renewal, failed-payment, expiring-card, cancellation, and reactivation notices when applicable. These notices are separate from optional club activity reminders.

If payment fails, we may retry the charge and limit paid features until payment succeeds. We may change future prices with advance notice where required by law. See the Billing, Cancellation, and Refund Policy for details.

9. Club Administration and Moderation

Club owners and moderators may manage membership, set default reminder timing, and remove content that violates club rules or these Terms. Each member controls whether and when they receive their own club reminders. Leaving a club ends future club email and access to member-only content, but prior contributions may remain as part of the shared discussion. Deleting a club removes its club-scoped content.

10. Service Availability

We strive to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time.

11. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the Settings page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be error-free or meet your specific requirements.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HighlightsHub shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
