It's Done

I can finally say it: every feature I ever wanted is here. Kindle highlights and Audible bookmarks, fully extracted and living together in one beautiful view. Searchable across highlights and notes. This is exactly what I imagined when I started this project.

No more bouncing between Amazon's clunky Kindle notebook and Audible's buried bookmark lists. Everything is here - tagged, organized, and ready to revisit whenever I need a little inspiration or introspection.

What's Next?

Now it's time to hunt down the bugs. Every edge case, every weird sync hiccup, every little annoyance - I'm coming for them. Once the experience is rock solid, the next adventure begins: Android and iOS apps.

Smart Sync Update

I've been living with HighlightsHub daily since launch, and the sync experience was driving me a little crazy during development. I'd click sync and not have much to see, so I built a dashboard along with the smart sync feature.

This update is all about visibility and control:

  • Real-time progress: Watch your books sync live with ETA countdown in the popup and dashboard
  • Smart sync: Only syncs books with new highlights - no more re-syncing your entire library to sync new highlights
  • Stop button: Changed your mind? Stop mid-sync
  • Live updates: Your Books and Highlights pages now update in real-time as books sync

I also squashed a bunch of bugs cosmetic bugs: accurate progress count, accurate highlight count, more natual feeling highlight management.

I also created the privacy policy and the terms of service and added them to the footer so they're easy to find. I added a cool new feature to auto update the privacy page based on the actual user information the app code uses, so that'll always stay up to date.

The MVP is Live 🎉

This is the first version of HighlightsHub, and it does 100% of what I personally wanted it to do:

  • Sync highlights from Kindle
  • Search and manage them by book or tag
  • And most importantly sync changes back to Kindle

That last one was the killer feature for me. I wanted to edit a note in the app and have it reflect back in my Kindle library. Done.

What's Next?

  • Audible Integration: Import audiobook bookmarks - adding this will make my vision of a single library come true
  • Smart Sync: Only sync books with new highlights instead of syncing everything
  • Chrome Web Store: Submit the extension to the Chrome Web Store
